With the Superlist integration for Slack, you can create tasks from messages in Slack channels and direct messages.

Connect a Slack workspace

  • Click on Settings and navigate to Integrations.

  • Locate Slack in the list and click Configure.

  • Select Connect account and a new window will open.

  • Choose the workspace you’d like to connect. You might need to sign in to Slack.

  • Click Allow to connect your account. Depending on your workspace’s settings, you might be prompted to submit a request to your App Manager before you can finish connecting the app.

💡Tip: The Superlist integration for Slack can only be connected to workspaces you’re a member of.

Create tasks from Slack

Create tasks from messages in your connected workspaces, or use Slack commands to quickly create and assign tasks.

Create tasks with Superlist commands

With Superlist for Slack, you can also use commands to create tasks, view lists, and view list content. You can use these commands in any channel or direct message without disrupting others — they’ll only be visible to you. We support the following commands:

  • /superlist list will show all lists.

  • /superlist create plus a task title will create a new task.

  • /superlist create plus a task title on your list title will create a new task and add it to a specified list.

So, for instance, typing the below command would add a task to schedule a kick-off call on our Brand Campaign list:

/Superlist create Schedule a kick-off call with Design on Brand Campaign

After adding a task, you’ll receive silent notification in the current channel.

Automatically create tasks from saved items

After connecting a Slack workspace, you can enable or disable the option to automatically create tasks from saved items. When this is enabled, saved items will appear as tasks in your inbox.

Manually create tasks from messages

If you want more control over the creation of your tasks, you can also create tasks manually using message shortcuts. Hover over a message and click More actions. Then click Create a task.

This will open a pop-up where you can add a task title, description, assignee, and due date. Superlist will suggest a task title based on the contents of the message; you can regenerate alternate titles or create your own. You can add it to an existing list, otherwise it’ll appear in your inbox.

Once you’ve filled in the necessary information, click Submit to add your task to Superlist. You’ll receive an immediate notification in Slack (that’s only visible to you) with a link to the task and an option to edit the title, assignee, due date, and associated list.

View and follow up on tasks

Tasks added from Slack will include:

  • The Slack icon, so you can quickly identify the source. Clicking on the icon will take you to the original message if a task was created from a saved item or message shortcut.

  • The task title. Depending on how you’ve added a task, it might be the message content, an AI-generated summary, or a custom title.

  • A dedicated label so you can find and filter tasks from Slack.

Manage tasks in Slack

You can also interact with tasks in your Superlist channel on Slack. By default, the channel will show tasks due today, but you can also use the date picker to see other due dates. Each task notification includes the following options:

  • Checkboxes indicate whether a task is complete. Checking a task in the Superlist channel will also mark it complete in Superlist.

  • Open in Superlist will take you to the details view of that task.

  • Edit will open a pop-up where you can adjust the title, assignee, due date, and associated list.

Share tasks with others

If your team isn’t using Superlist, you can still give them visibility into your current tasks. When you paste a link to a task in a Slack message, it will unfurl to reveal a preview that includes the task title, due date, and assignee.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter the error message "You are not authorized to install Superlist on (...)", kindly request your Slack administrator to enable the option for members to request approval for apps within the Slack settings.

Disconnect a Slack workspace

Connected workspaces will appear at the top of the Slack configuration page. To remove a workspace, simply click the Disconnect button to its right. Any current tasks created from that workspace will remain in Superlist, but you’ll no longer be able to add or manage tasks from Slack.
