Tasks are at the heart of every Superlist. From personal shopping lists to multi-step, multi-stakeholder projects, you can do it all in Superlist.
Create a task
Everyone has their personal productivity preferences. We offer multiple ways to create tasks in Superlist, so you can choose the ways that work best for you.
Add tasks to a list
Lists give you a flexible way to manage and organize tasks, notes, images, and more. To add a task to a list, simply open the list and click the format button (or type /
) and select Task. Type in your task and press Return
to quickly add more tasks to your list.
Add tasks from the sidebar
If you’re tracking quick to-do items, you can also create tasks without a parent list. Open Today or Inbox in the sidebar and click New task (or just type C) and type in your task. Later, if you want to add it to a list, you can select and hold the format button and drag your task into a list.
Add tasks from quick command
You can also add tasks using quick command. Click the New task button at the bottom-left of Superlist or type Shift + Option + Space
or Command + k
. Then, type in your task and press Return
. Tasks created from the quick command will land in your inbox.
Add tasks from integrations
With integrations, you can create tasks directly from the tools you use every day. Head to our integrations section to learn how to create tasks from Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Figma, and more.
Add details and subtasks
When you enrich your tasks with details, it makes it easier to track progress and see what’s happening week to week across lists, topics, and teams.
After you create a task, you can click on it and add a due date, label, and assignee. Click on the arrow to the right of a task to open up its detail view. Just like with lists, you can add tasks, texts, and inline images to a task details page.
Task details can also host attachments and discussions. You can attach any file type up to 25MB. Use attachments to add context to a task or to share deliverables with collaborators. Then discuss progress in the messages below. Learn more about collaborating on tasks here.
After adding subtasks, you’ll see a progress indicator below the top-level task. As you complete subtasks, the progress indicator will reflect how many tasks are done and how many are still open.
Complete or delete a task
Ready to check off a task? Hover over the task and click on the checkbox to its left to mark it as complete. Completed tasks will retain their current position in your list, but you can always reorganize them if you’d like to focus on your open tasks. To see all completed tasks, navigate to Tasks in your sidebar and then click on Done. This will show the most recently completed tasks, but you can also filter it by assignee, due date, creation date, source, and list.
If you’d like to delete a task, right-click on it and select Delete. Note that this will also delete any details, including subtasks.
Once you’ve created multiple lists and tasks, you’ll need a way to view what’s happening across lists. Learn how to view and filter all tasks in our next article.
